This , post-World War II, 20th century trend is greatly influenced by the simplicity and abstraction of the De Stijl movement1, the use of modern materials like glass and steel which was propagated by Van der Rohe, and the Zen philosophy of the Japanese way of life that rests on the edicts of simplicity.

energy efficient materials and designs. With a view to conserving forests, there is negligible or zero use of wood. Steel and glass is widely used instead, which not only adds to an impression of space, but also allows sunlight in sunlight.
